How to spend two delicious days in Ubud — markets, rice fields, a cooking class, and the best local food, mapped into an easy itinerary for first-time visitors.

Two days in Ubud is enough to eat very well — if you plan around food instead of a packed temple checklist. This Ubud food-lover itinerary puts a Balinese cooking class with market tour at the centre of day 1, then uses day 2 for coffee, temples, and the dishes you just learned to cook.
Day 1: Market, rice fields, and a cooking class
- Early morning: Ubud market before the souvenir stalls take over — spices, shallots, fresh coconut, and the ingredients you will cook later. Pair it with our morning market-tour class.
- Mid-morning: Ride out to a village kitchen. Walk working rice paddies, grind Base Genep by hand, and cook 10+ dishes (sate lilit, sambal matah, lawar, pepes, and more).
- Afternoon: Eat the feast you cooked, then a slow Campuhan Ridge Walk if you still have legs.
- Evening: Dinner at a local warung — babi guling if you eat pork, or a vegetarian nasi campur. You will recognise the sambals from class.
The cooking class is the anchor of the day. Our half-day cooking class fits a 2-day stay; a private class lets couples or families pick the time. Shared from IDR 506,370 with free Ubud hotel pickup.
Day 2: Coffee, temples, and slow food
- Morning: Balinese coffee and a jamu (herbal tonic). Skip the tourist “luwak coffee” hard-sell if the civets look confined.
- Late morning: Tirta Empul or Goa Gajah, then lunch at a warung nearby — order the vegetables and sambal you practised yesterday.
- Afternoon: Tegallalang if you want the famous terraces, or a quieter paddy walk. Our class already includes a village rice-field walk, so you do not need both. Rice terrace cooking class guide.
- Evening: A long dinner. Try lawar, pepes, or sate lilit now that you know how they are built.
Where this sits in a longer Bali trip
If you are splitting time between the coast and the uplands, park these two food days in Ubud and keep beach time in Canggu or Seminyak. Area comparison: Ubud vs Canggu vs Seminyak. Broader island list: things to do in Bali.
Plant-based travellers can follow the same itinerary — our kitchen runs a full vegetarian and vegan menu, not a side plate. See the vegetarian cooking class Ubud guide.
Eat like you mean it
The fastest way to eat well in Ubud is to cook it yourself first. Still deciding? Is a Bali cooking class worth it? Then book the Ubud cooking class or check morning and afternoon dates.
Frequently asked questions
How should a food lover spend 2 days in Ubud?
Day 1: morning market, rice-field walk, and a Balinese cooking class, then a warung dinner. Day 2: coffee and jamu, a temple visit, Tegallalang or a quieter paddy walk, and a long dinner of dishes you now know how to cook.
Should I book the cooking class on day 1 or day 2?
Book it on day 1 if you can. You learn what goes into bumbu, sambal matah, and lawar, then eat smarter at warungs for the rest of the trip. Morning sessions include the traditional market tour.
Is two days in Ubud enough for food and a cooking class?
Yes for a focused food trip. A half-day class (morning or afternoon) leaves room for temples, a ridge walk, and two proper warung meals. Stay a third night if you also want a full spa or water-temple day.
